On Saturday, April 15th, 2023, at the Keystone Centre in Brandon, 91 4-H members participated in the Provincial 4-H Communications Extravaganza. These members had risen to the top through a series of competitions from club level to area levels across the province.
Members competed in the following categories: Cloverbud, Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Adult Speeches, Cloverbud, Junior, Intermediate, Senior and Adult One-Person Visual Presentations, Junior, Intermediate and Senior Two-Person Visual Presentations. An awards presentation followed each competition session.
Approximately 500 people attended the Provincial Communications Extravaganza. Thank you to the committee volunteers – Linda McRae-Walker, Wenda Best, Cheryl Antonio and Julie Labossiere – as well as the judges and other volunteers for a job well done. Special thanks to our sponsors for their generous support: BASF, FCC, Manitoba Agriculture, Peavey Mart and SeCan. The 4-H International Art Exchange is a four-part exchange between Canada, Poland, Taiwan and the United States. If you would like to be part of the exchange, visual letters must be mailed or dropped off to M4HC Program Coordinator Linda McRae-Walker, 658 Unit-A 10th Street, Brandon R7A 4G5 by April 14 (if a representative from your club is attending the Provincial Communications Extravaganza on April 15, they are also welcome to bring the visual letters with them). This year, our Intermediate Members’ Event is taking place at Camp Manitou. The event will start on Saturday at 10 a.m. and end on Sunday at 2 p.m. If you would like to register for this event, please go to our database https://www.4hmanitoba.ca/. Be sure to use the member’s login ID and password, then go to events and select May 27 on the calendar.
There are only 50 spots available and your spot is not guaranteed until your registration fee is received. You must also be enrolled in a 4-H Manitoba Club and your 2022/23 fees must be paid before you can attend this event. The weekend will be jam-packed full of activities that everyone should enjoy! The CO-OPS of Westman selected the Pierson club’s video as the winner of its 4 W’s of 4-H video competition at a special celebration during 4-H Day at the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair on March 28. The club, one of seven entrants, received a $500 gift card and had their winning entry played on the Jumbotron in Westoba Place during the March 28 festivities. Tuesday, March 28, 2023 is 4-H Day at the Winter Fair in Brandon. Manitoba 4-H Council staff will be at the 4-H booth at the fair to share information about the 4-H Manitoba program, which is celebrating its 110th anniversary this year. CO-OP, in partnership with the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba, is offering free and discounted gate admission to 4-H members. The Intermediate Members’ Event committee is looking for Senior and/or Adult Members to lead groups of 4-H members at the event taking place May 27 and 28 at Camp Manitou. This would be an excellent opportunity to add Leadership to your resumé. We would ask you to join our planning meetings held via Zoom in the evenings and be prepared to spend the weekend with our Intermediates, sharing your knowledge and leadership skills.
