4-H Canada Citizenship Congress
May 10-15, 2025 – Ottawa
Seven Manitobans (aged 16-21) will participate as part of 70 Canadian delegates at this conference.
Registration fee: $317.50 (actual cost $635 – 50% subsidy from M4HC)
Developed in 1972 to unite 4-H members from across the country, this national annual gathering is an opportunity for youth to strengthen their citizenship skills, connections, and identity. Through hands-on learning experiences, delegates engage with each other, parliamentarians, Knowledge Keepers, and business leaders all set against the backdrop of the nation’s capital.
In alignment with the mission of all 4-H Canada youth programs, the central aim of the Citizenship Congress is to enable delegates to put into practice the skills and knowledge they acquire, transforming them into responsible, caring, contributing members, and citizens within their local communities.
Program Refresh
This year the annual debate will not be the primary focus of the conference. While it won’t be eliminated entirely, it will take the form of a mock debate or session rather than serving as the main culminating activity. This change aims to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment, encouraging broader participation and engaging potential members who may have felt uncertain about attending Citizenship Congress in the past.
• Instead, members will be expanding their perspective on “citizenship” to include its diverse aspects, such as community responsibility, civic engagement, and democracy.
• There will be opportunities and sessions where delegates will be challenged to develop actions they can take after the event to continue to have their voices heard on issues important to them and put them into practice.
