Clarification re: 4-H Event Cancellations and Update

Dear 4-H Manitoba members, leaders and families,

Thank you for the questions we received yesterday’s email regarding event cancellations. I would like to clarify a few points:

  • The provincial events listed in the email below will not be rescheduled in fall 2020.
  • Participants taking part in national travel opportunities (Citizenship Congress, Club-to-Club, etc.) will receive event postponement/cancellation notices as appropriate directly from 4-H Canada.  If travel fees have been submitted to M4HC for any national event, fees will be returned if the event is cancelled or held if the event is re-scheduled to a later date in 2020.
  • Cancellation of all in-person events scheduled before June 13 includes all club, inter-club, Zone and Area Council events.
  • Leaders who lead only their own children may continue to complete their project work.
  • Provincial Communications – the original intention was to move the event from April 18 to June 6, however, the 2020 event has now been cancelled.
  • At their discretion, clubs and committees organizing events scheduled after June 13 may continue planning these but should be aware that it may yet be necessary to cancel these as the pandemic evolves.
  • For those who do not have reliable internet access, there is the option to join a Zoom video conference call by telephone only.
  • Although Highway Clean-Up had not been confirmed for 2020 but it would have taken place prior to June 13 and is, therefore, cancelled.

Please reach out to Lynn or Shannon if you have any questions about your club Achievements; they are there to answer any of your questions.

Thank you for your patience.  Please continue to do your part to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Regards,

Dear 4-H Manitoba members, leaders and families,

Thank you all for your patience and support as we navigate these difficult times.  The M4HC Board of Directors met by conference call last night and, in light of the current projected timeline for the Covid-19 pandemic, made the decision to cancel the following events:

  • Food Challenge – April 25-June 20
  • Manitoba 150 Rally – May 9
  • Intermediate Camp – May 29-31
  • Provincial Communications – June 6
  • All in person Club Achievements scheduled prior to June 13

Thank you to those members who had already registered for these events – we regret that we have to disappoint you.  Fees submitted by e.transfer for the Intermediate Camp will be reimbursed as soon as possible.  Fees submitted by cheque have not yet been deposited and will be shredded on April 1, unless you contact Linda before this date to request your cheque be returned. Lynn and Shannon will be reaching out to the clubs to discuss options regarding Achievements.

In addition, our York-Benimaru Foundation partners notified us that they have made the difficult decision to cancel the Japan Homestay Exchange 2020.  Thank you to the 4-H Manitoba families who had already volunteered to host this summer.  We hope that we will be able to rely on your support again in 2021.

Some clubs have enquired about holding on-line meetings.  While all in-person 4-H meetings/activities are suspended until further notice, clubs may continue with project work by conference call, email or an on-line service such as Zoom.  Information on setting up a Zoom meeting can be found at https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362413-Scheduling-meetings.  The service is free provided that meetings are shorter than 45 minutes.

We ask that Head Leaders and Area Councils use one of these options to determine your votes for Board Nominations/Resolution which must be submitted to the Brandon office by June 1.

We encourage members to continue to participate in the International Art Exchange, using whatever paper/art equipment you have available to capture a “Coronavirus moment in time”.  Pictures can be mailed to the Brandon office (address below my signature) or submitted by cellphone photograph emailed to lmcrae-walker@4h.mb.ca.  Let’s display your creativity about how you feel, or what is happening in your life, during these pandemic times.

We will be adding weekly 4-H At Home activities to the 4-H website in the Resources tab under Member Resources https://4h.mb.ca/member-resources/, with a link on the 4-H Manitoba Facebook page, for those who wish to participate.  There are also a number of excellent resources on the memory stick provided to Head Leaders at reorganization meetings in the fall, namely:

  • Canned Presentations 2014
  • Building Block Mania
  • Club Pack – 65 activities
  • Building Block 2
  • Discovery Zone
  • POWER Pack
  • Fun Pack – 8 different sections
  • Rec Your 4-H Club

We will continue to communicate with you as the situation evolves but please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to.  For the health and safety of everyone in our communities, please stay home.

Regards,

M4HC Covid-19 Update

Dear 4-H Manitoba members, leaders and families,

We have received a number of questions relating to the email (below) issued on Friday about the immediate suspension of 4-H activities.  I wish to confirm that, at this time, irrespective of the size of your project group, club, interclub or Area or the type of activity planned, ALL 4-H activities are suspended until April 13.  To put it simply, there are currently no 4-H Manitoba sanctioned events taking place which means there is no insurance coverage either.

Please note that the M4HC Brandon office is currently closed and the staff are working from home.  We can all be contacted on our regular office email or on the following telephone numbers:

Leslie Bryde 204-726-6136
Shannon Carvey 204-573-4829

Dear 4-H Manitoba members, leaders and families,

We wish to provide you with an update regarding 4-H Manitoba and Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The health, safety and security of our youth members, leaders and families remains our number one priority.  Taking account of the Education Department’s decision to close all Manitoba public schools with effect from March 23 and the decision of local school divisions to cancel public events in their schools with immediate effect, 4-H Manitoba will suspend all club, inter-club, Area and provincial activities until April 13, 2020.  It is anticipated that the Provincial Communications Competition will be postponed until late May/early June in the hope that Area competitions can still take place within this time frame.

This is a dynamic and evolving situation and we will continue to monitor official sources of information and recommendations re: Covid-19.  We will communicate regularly with timely, relevant and accurate information.

Planning for 4-H Manitoba’s programs is still moving forward for events outside of this month-long window.  We encourage program participants, chaperones and families to continue to plan for our upcoming programs as 4-H Manitoba is not cancelling or delaying other programs at this time.

For more information on COVID-19, please consult the Government of Canada’s website at canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19.html and Manitoba Health at https://www.gov.mb.ca/health/coronavirus/

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or are seeking clarification.
